Tea + Meditations
As a lover of tea, my intentions with this project were to share some of my favorite tea flavors with my community. Alongside the teas I created and printed unique digital food collages for each flavor and a short piece of my own writings on the flavors, background history and cultural references of each tea. Within the text I included a prompt to meditate on some aspect of ones life in relation to that tea blend.
Each tea blend was made from scratch by me with all natural ingredients :)
Hibiscus
the ruby red //
of health, abundance and joy //
brings with it //
floral notes //
and memories of //
haiti, jamaica, the caribbean //
sitting amidst banana leaves //
and nourished soil //
watching sugar cane stalks //
and grand mountains in the distance //
with each sip //
remember where home is for you //
Rooibos
known as "red bush" //
in afrikaans //
with notes of cinnamon and vanilla //
a tea whose leaves have chosen //
to only grow where it is native //
south africa in its beautiful red/brown hue //
be grounded and aware as you sip //
knowing that you grow well //
in the spaces meant for you //
Matcha
delicate and smooth //
with origins in Japan //
leaves processed with care //
powder mixed with relaxation //
and intention //
as you sip //
meditate on care and attention //
for yourself //
and how you chose to show up today //
Moroccan Mint
always enjoyed in stages //
with varying amounts of sugar each time //
in and around //
the streets of marrakech //
hot green tea //
with fresh mint //
served with great expression //
amongst friends, family and strangers //
as you sip //
remember your community //
those whom you care for //
and those who care for you //
ćheyáka
the simplicity of your flavors //
honors this land //
and native people //
inspired by the knowledge //
shared by chef sean sherman //
with every sip //
give thanks to the soil //
and honor the trees that bear fruit //
remembering the stewards of our earth //
and our collective role //
Masala Chai
a combination of warming spices //
star anise, clove, cardamom //
cinnamon and black peppercorn //
black tea grown in assam //
sweetness from jaggery //
an offering to guests //
and enjoyed in between meals //
as you sip //
reflect on those areas that bring //
a necessary heat into your life //
and a pleasant warmth //
