Germination
Curated by Brigitte Menye Eto
The Sonnenschein Gallery at Lake Forest College was thoughtfully designed and transformed into a liminal, fall-toned space, inviting the audience to experience African-diasporic plants and foodways through a new perspective.
Germination featured a series of wall installations and screen prints while offering a gourmet sensory visiting experience. Germination delves into Antoine's connection with her love of food and passion for agriculture. Moreover, her work sheds light on her Haitian heritage and her delineation of African diasporic foodways. This delineation is shown throughout her work, which emphasizes the spiritual and ancestral connections she has found in farming.
The gallery is honored to feature a new Hibiscus screenprint series and a site specific wall installation that embraces Antoine's entanglement with hibiscus, food and her heritage. The accompanying Albright Gallery exhibited Harvest and Nourishment, which includes artwork from the Lake Forest college archives along with work by Lake Forest College student artists.
